SATA-USB Not Recognizing HDD?

I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 internal harddrive. My operating system was currupted when the system shutdown in the middle of a restore. I am trying to reach my files using a SATA-USB cord. When I plug in my HDD, it recognizes it as a "mass USB storage device" but it does not appear in My Computer. What can I do? All I've heard is to reformat the drive, but that kinda defeats the purpose.
