Will i get a staph infection?

Okay so im a lifeguard and one of my fellow guards got a staph infection. He has sores all over his chin area and arms and even one or two on his fingers. Me and a few of the other guards are worried about catching it. He has told us he has the kind that needs to be treated with pill & that if it wasn't getting better by today (Friday 30th of June) he had to go back to the doctor. Well it hasn't cleared up any he said and he even told me hes gotten more sores. Our manager has been informed about it from several guards and the infected guard but he says " the bacteria is everywhere, so its not like youre at anymore risk than usual" I feel otherwise & so do some other guards. We have even gotten a formal complaint from one of the patrons who uses our facility about being concerned about catching what hes got. If my manager doesnt excuse him from work until it clears im thinking i want to be excused from work then because were constantly having to touch the same items he touches due to our job. Bottom line is im worrie about catching it. Any advice?
